Non Tuberculous Mycobacteria CT chest

  • is a
    • group of bacteria that can infect the
      • cervical lymph nodes,
      • skin,
      • soft tissues, and
      • lung
  • Caused by
    • Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare or
    • M kansasii.
      • ubiquitous
      • slow growing
      • normal colonization
  • Resulting in
    • chronic, indolent pulmonary infection
  •  Diagnosis
    • Clinical
      • indolent
    •  Difficult
      • isolation from sputum or bronchoalveolar lavage fluid can be
        • airway colonization
      • Imaging
        • may be indistinguishable from classic TB
        • protean and include
          • centilobular nodules
          • cavitation
          • consolidation,
          • fibrosis,
          • bronchiectasis, and
          • adenopathy.
        • mosst severe in the lingula and middle lobe
