In interstitial lung disease, some diseases affect all zones while others have a predilection to affect a particular pulmonary interstitial zone 2:
- axial: surrounding the bronchovascular tree
- parenchymal: surrounding the pulmonary parenchyma
- peripheral: adjacent to the pleura
