Loeffler syndrome

Löffler’s syndrome

  • Inflammatory response to
    • Parasites (e.g).
      • Ascaris
      • Strongyloides
      •  Ancylostoma
    • Drugs (e.g. aspirin, penicillin)
  • Characterised by proliferation of eosinophils
  • fever
  • wheezing
  • coughing
  • abdominal pain and cramping,
  • skin rashes
  • fatigue.
  • Dx
    • Lab
      • eosinophilia
        • over 500 cells/mcL (<350cells/mcL= normal)
    • CXR
      • Infiltrate
    • CT
      • periphetral
      • non-segmental infiltrate
      • unilateral or bilateral.
      • usually not
        • pleural effusion
        • adenopathy
