Signs and Findings in CHF Ground Glass Opacities Interlobular Septal Thickening Crazy Paving and Subpleural Sparing CHF – Alveolar EdemaCT scan shows Diffuse ground glass pattern with thickening of the interlobular septa and manifesting as crazy paving patternAshley Davidoff MD TheCommonVein.net 131742 Batwing Consolidation Perihilar Alveolar Edema70 year old female s/p cardiac arrest and ROSC. CXR shows centralised alveolar edema as a result of intra- alveolar accumulation of transudate. The centralized distribution of the infiltrates is haracteristic ofsevere heart failure – batwing distributionAshley Davidoff MDTheCommonVein.net CHF – lung consolidationIn this patient with acute congestive cardiac failure the consolidation that has hilar distribution has reminded radiologists of bat wings and is caused by alveolar edema. As a result of the fluid in the alveoli, gas exchange across the respiratory membrane is reduced and required intubation to improve the gas exchange process. Note the endotracheal tube as well as the central venous line that is used to assess the heart pressure and monitor the congestion.
